The civic initiative Trauerwache Deutschland is committed to ensuring lasting and dignified public remembrance of victims from 2015 onwards - regardless of their origin, nationality or faith.

Our mission is guided by the principle of equality enshrined in Article 3 of Germany’s Basic Law: the dignity of victims and the suffering of their families must be accorded equal recognition.

Existing commemorative events are important expressions of remembrance. We also advocate an enduring culture of regular commemoration that gives all victims equal recognition in society and political life. Our aim is to bring together communities affected by loss, address gaps in public remembrance and offer bereaved families lasting compassion, dignity and respect - as a unifying expression of shared remembrance:
